President Joe Biden’s push to ban assault weapons following a mass shooting in Colorado has a “snowflake’s chance” of success, according to Sky News contributor Michael Ware. The president’s call to ban assault weapons comes after 10 people were shot dead in a supermarket in Boulder Colorado and eight people dead after a shooting in Georgia in the space of one week. There are now two bills before the Congress designed to strengthen background checks for people seeking to buy guns. President Biden urged both the House of Representatives and the Senate “to act” on these bills, insisting the measures will “save lives”. "I don't need to wait another minute, let alone an hour, to take common-sense steps that will save the lives in the future, and to urge my colleagues in the House and Senate to act," President Biden said. Mr Ware said mass shootings like those in Colorado and Georgia “just change nothing” when it comes to gun laws. “Gun rights and gun ownership is so deeply enmeshed in the American culture that these incidents just don’t budge the needle,” he said. Mr Ware said the bills currently in Congress will “die in the senate” and the president’s push to ban assault weapons “doesn’t have a snowflake’s chance”. “Nothing changes here in America despite how many mass shootings seem to take place.”
