Victoria expands vaccine eligibility to over 40 amid week-long lockdown

Victorians over the age of 40 will now be eligible for the Pfizer vaccine at state-run sites as the state is plunged into a snap week-long lockdown to curb its growing cluster. Acting Premier James Merlino said health authorities had agreed to expand the scope of Victoria’s vaccination sites to include those between the age of 40 and 49 years old. It comes as the Melbourne suburb cluster grew to 26 in the past 24-hours, while health authorities identified 10,000 close and primary contacts to existing cases. Mr Merlino said he strongly encouraged eligible Victorians to get vaccinated, and listed vaccinations as one of the five circumstances in which Victorians could leave home. “The only way through this pandemic is everyone getting vaccinated as quickly as you are eligible,” he said.
