Barilaro: 14-day lockdown still the ‘target’ for Sydney

NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro says a 14-day lockdown is still the “target” for Sydney and while there is no “cause for alarm” it will be extended at this stage it all depends on the data. “Moving out of restrictions was always our priority. It was going to be a 14-day lockdown and that’s the target still,” he said. “I don’t think there’s at this stage cause for alarm, but we will be looking at that data.” Mr Barilaro said the case numbers have been “stubborn” but the “key” numbers are the amount of people still roaming around in the community while infectious. “Even after yesterday’s number there were only six or seven that were in that category and they’re the numbers that we’re more focussed on,” he said. “It’s in relation to how transmissible this infection is, and if they are in isolation then we’re more comfortable. “But right now, as the premier has touched on, its touch and go about what we do later in the week, and we’ll be making those decisions in the next couple of days.”
