The ADF has been called on to help with the NSW COVID outbreak after the state had its worst day since the outbreak began, with 239 new local cases recorded on Thursday. There have been 300 ADF personnel assigned to enforce compliance in the state, and in addition, thousands more police officers will be deployed to eight high-risk local government areas. On-the-spot fines for breaching mask mandates have risen to $500 and police have been granted powers to close businesses if they flout restrictions. Stricter rules have come into force for the eight LGA’s of concern, including residents having to wear masks any time when outside.
