Former Labor Senator Stephen Conroy has argued British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has decided to bring an end to the country’s COVID restrictions because he needs a “distraction” from the scandals plaguing his government. Mr Johnson has set July 19 as the date for England’s final step out of lockdown with social distancing, mask mandates and club closures just some of the restrictions which will come to an end. “Boris Johnson is desperate for any good news,” Mr Conroy said. His government is a train wreck, his government is wrecked by scandal, his government is wrecked by claims from his former advisor that he’s incompetent, he’s unfit for the job, that ministers are unfit for their jobs. “So he just wants a complete distraction. “I don’t think there’s any medical advice I’ve ever seen that says 60 per cent, 65 per cent is the sort of herd immunity type level you need to go to fully unrestricted activity.”
