A state of emergency has been declared for Miami Beach after students swarmed the popular Florida tourist destination for spring break has resulted in multiple arrests. Pepper balls were recently fired by police to disperse crowds, and authorities have expressed frustration at the flagrant disregard for the rules demonstrated by many of the holidaymakers. Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber said, “our city right now in this area has become a tinder and we cannot have a policy of simply hoping it’s not lit”. Florida has limited COVID-19 restrictions and no mask mandate but an emergency curfew between 8:00pm and 6:00am has recently been introduced for Miami beach.
