NSW government slams ‘misleading’ claims Powerhouse Museum has flooded

The Berejiklian government has strongly hit out at claims the multi-million-dollar Powerhouse Museum site has flooded, stating the site is built above the one in a thousand-year flood level. Reports have emerged the Powerhouse Museum site, on the banks of the Parramatta River, was flooded after days of rain pour broke the banks of the river. Premier Gladys Berejiklian said she “strenuously” disputed the claims which centred around whether the site was appropriate for the $950 million project. Parramatta MP Dr Geoff Lee said the “spurious allegations” that the site has flooded are “absolutely misleading” given the museum is built above the one in a thousand-year flood level. “It is above most of the CBD, the collection is safe the museum will be safe, those misguided people should actually look at the engineering,” he said. “It should be clear that it is not in the one in ten, one in a hundred, it is one in a thousand, people are misguided saying it’s going to flood.”
