Victoria to ease restrictions on gatherings, masks from Friday

Victoria will see an easing of coronavirus restrictions on mask wearing and gatherings from 6pm March 26. Acting Premier James Merlino today announced from Friday masks will no longer be mandatory in retail settings – however, will still need to be worn on public transport, aged care and hospital settings, rideshares and at the airport. The cap on private gatherings will be increased from 30 people up to 100, with up to 200 also to be allowed to attend public gatherings. Stadium capacity for major sporting events will also be increased to 75 per cent – which will see up to 75,000 people allowed to attend the MCG, 43,000 at Marvel Stadium and 22,000 at AAMI Park. The cap on officer workers – currently at 75 per cent – will be removed, allowing all officer workers to return to work on site. Finally, caps on patrons at indoor non-seated entertainment venues will be boosted from 50 per cent to 75 per cent – on the proviso the two square metre rules remains in place and an overall cap of 1,000 people at the venue – with caps on dancefloors also to be removed.
