Sky News host Rita Panahi says it’s “disgusting” to threaten to jail or fine Australian citizens returning from India and any deaths are “going to be on our heads”. “Being an Australian citizen means something – it should mean something – should afford you certain privileges and one of those privileges is to enter your own country,” Ms Panahi said. “Now you’re told if you come here and you’ve been in India you are a criminal. “If we have Australian citizens dying in India, in a third world country, developing country, with a substandard health system, that’s going to be on our heads.” From Monday, returning citizens who have been in India within a fortnight face a $66,000 fine or five years’ prison, or both.
