Concerns are being raised over Victoria’s proposed emissions reduction strategy which would see hospitals, police stations and schools completely powered by renewable energy by 2025. The state set reduction targets of 28 to 33 per cent by 2025 and net zero by 2050 – which has been met with fears it will harm jobs and drive up energy prices. Federal Energy Minister Angus Taylor warned the aggressive policy will harm blue collar jobs. Victoria’s major coal generators also feared mismatched policies between state and federal governments will reduce electricity reliability.
