Caldor Fire Smoke Casts Haze Over South Lake Tahoe, California

New evacuations were ordered for parts of El Dorado County, California, as the Caldor Fire grew overnight, reaching 149,684 acres (about 234 square miles) on Saturday, August 28, according to Cal Fire. Video filmed by Mikey Thomas shows an orange haze cast over the community of Meyers in South Lake Tahoe. “What was that, a car in front of us, about 50 feet away? Can’t see it with all the smoke,” a woman says in the video. “This smoke is unbearable,” Thomas wrote in an Instagram caption. The Caldor Fire was brought to 19 percent containment on Saturday by more than 3,000 personnel working to battle the blaze, Cal Fire said. Credit: Mikey Thomas via Storyful
