Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has warned state premiers the economy will suffer if they don't stick to the national plan to reopen the country once vaccination targets have been met. Mr Frydenberg has increased pressure on state leaders – particularly the resources states of Queensland and Western Australia – who have maintained zero-COVID policies and hard borders. He warned of a "ridiculous" scenario where Australians could be able to fly to Canada or Singapore but not Perth or Cairns. He said economic growth is expected to be negative in the September quarter but is hopeful of a bounce-back in December.
