Storm Ida made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane in coastal Louisiana on Sunday, August 29, bringing maximum sustained winds of 150 mph, the National Hurricane Center said. Louisiana residents spent Monday morning surveying the damage and working to clear roads of debris and trees. Covington resident Kalisa recorded video of her community working together to clear two large pine trees that fell during the storm. “Miraculously,” she told Storyful, no one in her community was hurt, but the street was without power on Monday. Kalisa’s husband, Chip, is driving the Jeep in the video, she said. “You’ve heard of the Cajun Navy that does water rescues?” Kalisa wrote on Twitter. “I’m calling my neighborhood the Cajun Marines – out here clearing the street and making it safe for us all.” Ida was downgraded to a tropical storm as it passed over southwestern Mississippi early Monday.
