Calls for Victoria to implement ‘compassion’ watchdog amid lockdown restrictions

There are calls for Victoria to implement a 'Compassion watchdog' under a plan to make the state's lockdown rules fairer. The state opposition is calling for a 'Compassion Commissioner' – similar to an Ombudsman – which would decide whether locked-down Victorians can visit dying loved ones or grieving relatives. Under the proposal, the Compassion Commissioner would sit separate to the state's Covid-19 response team, and receive cases directly from the public. Opposition Leader Michael O'Brien has accused the government of losing all common sense and compassion under the current system.
