Fire Crews Work to Protect Structures Threatened by Caldor Fire in California’s El Dorado County

More than 3,000 personnel continued to battle the Caldor Fire that had burned 149,684 acres (about 234 square miles) across northern California and was 19 percent contained as of Saturday, August 28, Cal Fire said. Footage released by Cal Fire’s Amador-El Dorado Unit on Saturday shows a crew working to protect a building. “These firefighters are providing structure protection in Silver Fork, just east of Kyburz,” the unit wrote in a Facebook caption. “Low intensity burning operations remove light fuels from around structures to help reduce the fire risk.” Nine communities impacted by the Caldor Fire were experiencing unhealthy, very unhealthy, or hazardous air quality on Saturday, according to the US Forest Service.
