The Taliban has issued guidance to imams around Afghanistan, claiming they should use weekly sermons and prayers to appeal for unity. It is reported several mosques are seeing higher numbers of attendees than normal. Across the country, Afghans went to prayers on the first Friday since the takeover, with the Taliban watching on, armed and a menacing presence - at odds with their message of freedom and unity. There are reports of fighters going door-to-door, looking for those who have opposed them or worked with international forces. The national flag is still being displayed in Kabul as a protest against Taliban rule. While markets have reopened in the city, life is not yet back to normal - but there is a growing acceptance, however grudgingly, of what the future will be. The Taliban want to be recognised as legitimate rulers but reports of violence and retribution suggests they have not changed.
