Henan Firefighters Rescue Residents From ‘Record’ Flooding in Anyang, China

Record flooding in China’s Henan province killed at least 33 people and eight others were reported missing as of July 22, local media reported. From July 19 to 22, the average rainfall in the city of Anyang was 304.6 millimeters (about one foot) with some areas exceeding 600 millimeters (about two feet), according to local news reports. More than 17,000 firefighters have been dispatched for rescue operations across Henan, according to local reports. This footage released by Hebei Fire shows separate rescue efforts in Anyang city between July 21 and 22. The first clip, which runs till 1:12, shows members of the Hebei Fire Rescue Corps near Anyang College wading through water as deep as 1.4 meters (4.6 feet) on Wednesday night. Four people were rescued and more than 10 others were evacuated, according to the fire department. The second clip, which runs from 1:12 to 1:25, shows Hengshui city firefighters transporting a mother who was trapped in a hotel with her newborn baby to safety on Thursday morning, the fire department wrote in a caption. The third clip, which runs from 1:25 to 1:38, shows an aerial view of firefighters draining floodwaters on a main road in Anyang’s Long’an district on Thursday afternoon, the fire department said.
