The Changing of the Guard ceremony has returned to Buckingham Palace for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic. The popular event, which traditionally attracts groups of tourists, was halted in March last year to prevent mass gatherings. The 1st Battalion the Coldstream Guards marched from Wellington Barracks to take over duty from the Grenadier Guards. They played tribute to Britain’s Olympians, playing familiar hits such as Spandau Ballet’s ‘Gold’, ‘Chariots of Fire’ and the Olympic theme. The Queen is currently on annual break at Balmoral and missed out on the time-honoured tradition.
