Evacuation orders and road closures remained in effect across parts of Northern California on Wednesday, August 4, as ongoing blazes including the Dixie fire burned across the region. The 428-square-mile Dixie fire was 35 percent contained and had destroyed 45 structures, 22 minor structures, and damaged five others as of Wednesday, according to fire officials. Plumas National Forest warned of unhealthy air quality impacting communities in Susanville, Mineral, and Chester on Wednesday. This footage released by Caltrans District 2 shows the smoky conditions along the California 89 highway that remained closed on Wednesday. “Several closures remain in place due to the fire growth seen yesterday,” Caltrans wrote in a caption. “Today, hot, dry, and windy conditions are predicted with a Red Flag warning in effect from 1 pm Wednesday to 8 pm Thursday.” Credit: Caltrans District 2 via Storyful
