A dust devil blew through a fire command post in Siskiyou County, California – where the 69,700-acre Antelope Fire remained active – footage from Tuesday, August 24, shows. This video released by the US Forest Service Klamath National Forest shows the whirlwind tossing a tent into the air as it swirled across a field. “Imagine the impact had this dust devil happened on an active fireline,” Klamath National Forest wrote in a caption. “At that point, it would be called a fire whirl, and it could carry a huge variety of burning twigs, branches, limbs, and embers to very dry, burnable vegetation outside the existing fire area.” The nearby Antelope Fire was 40 percent contained as of Wednesday, according to officials, as an evacuation order in the area was downgraded to a warning.
