Australia suffered its worst day of the pandemic in a year after New South Wales recorded the nation’s highest number of deaths since October, and mystery cases gripped Victoria and Queensland. Health officials have warned the situation will worsen in the coming weeks as the highly contagious Delta variant leaks across the state borders. Federal and state leaders will discuss how to secure millions of extra doses to reach its 70 per cent vaccination target by December. They will also consider vaccine incentives which will drive the second phase of the national reopening plan and help Australia move above 80 per cent coverage.
