NSW Hunter region in lockdown amid virus spread concerns

The New South Wales Hunter region has entered a week-long lockdown over concerns the virus is spreading across the state. The Hunter and Upper Hunter, including Newcastle, Port Stephens, Maitland, and Cessnock, is locked down for a week after an individual from Sydney attended a gathering and passed it on to five others. Parents, staff, and students at Maitland Christian School and Morisset High School are in isolation after being exposed to one of the cases. The Lake Munmorah Public School on the Central Coast is also shut for deep cleaning after two students tested positive. The NSW chief health officer thinks there are undetected cases in Armadale and also possibly Dubbo due to wastewater detections. There will be 180,000 extra Pfizer doses deployed to Sydney by August 16 to go to regions who had their vaccine supply redirected to Sydney’s west and southwest.
