US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has promised they will get every US citizen who wants to leave out of Afghanistan regardless of the August 31 withdrawal deadline. There have been 4,500 taken out of the country already but another 1,500 Americans remain in Afghanistan. The state department said around 500 are actively looking to leave while the other 1,000 have other considerations like extended family who may not be able to leave. The situation has become increasingly dangerous with the crowds gathered around the airport and the Taliban becoming more assertive in stopping Afghans and foreign nationals from accessing it. Secretary Blinken has also said there was a “very real” possibility of an ISIS-K attack.
