Brazil is seeing thousands of new COVID-19 cases and deaths daily as 500,000 people are believed to have died of the virus this week. America is the only country which has seen more people killed by the virus and now the major variant, P1, appears to be killing pregnant women and their unborn children at an alarming rate. The death rate for pregnant women in Brazil is already high at 55 per 100,000 women and experts say with the variant the number to double to over 100 per 100,000 women dying. With a slow vaccine rollout, the health authority in Brazil has resorted to telling women not to get pregnant.
