The United States has reportedly carried out airstrikes against Iran-backed militias at three locations near the Iraq-Syria border - allegedly killing four people. The strikes reportedly targeted operational and weapons storage facilities and were conducted in response to drone attacks on United States forces in Iraq. Powerful Iraqi militia alliance - the PMF - has claimed the attacks killed fighters carrying out an officially sanctioned mission to prevent IS militants from infiltrating Iraq. The coalition has condemned the strikes and threatened retaliation. The Pentagon has called the strikes “defensive” and a “deliberate” deterrent but has not disclosed if anyone was injured or killed by the launch.
