Victoria's Acting Premier James Merlino has defended the Chief Health Officer Professor Brett Sutton’s decision to go on an interstate awards show while they were under tough restrictions. On Wednesday Professor Sutton travelled from Victoria to Canberra for a work function consisting of a dinner and awards ceremony for the National Health and Medical Research Council. At the same time, five million Melburnians were living under post lockdown restrictions and could not receive visitors or go more than 25 kilometres from their homes. Mr Merlino said it was an “appropriate work event” for Professor Sutton to attend but admitted he did not know about it.
