Pan-African Flag Raised at Philadelphia City Hall Ahead of Juneteenth

The Pan-African flag was raised outside of City Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, June 16, ahead of the announcement that Juneteenth would be designated a federal holiday. Juneteenth, observed on June 19, celebrates the abolition of slavery and emancipation of enslaved African Americans. US President Joe Biden signed a bill on Thursday to officially make Juneteenth a federal holiday. City of Philadelphia Government livestreamed this footage on Facebook that shows the Pan-African flag, also referred to as the Black Liberation flag, being raised at City Hall on Wednesday as “Lift Every Voice and Sing” – often referred to as the black national anthem – is played.
