Dixie Fire in Northeastern California Surpasses 220 Square Miles

The Dixie Fire in Plumas County, California, turned the sky bright pink and orange on Thursday evening, July 22, as thousands of personnel fought to protect homes and structures from the flames. Footage shared by Jacob Cline shows a helicopter view of the forest fire, taken on Thursday. As of Friday afternoon, the fire was estimated to be 142,940 acres (about 223 square miles) in size and was 18 percent contained, officials said. More than 4,000 personnel were fighting the fire.
