Police Rescue Residents Trapped by Severe Flooding in Northeastern Turkey

Heavy rain caused intense flooding in the northeastern Turkish provinces of Artvin and Rize on Thursday, July 22, prompting police rescues, footage shows. Video shared on Twitter by Turk Polis Teskilati (General Directorate of Security) shows police trudging through floodwaters in Artvin and pulling residents on boats. “We are with you,” the tweet reads. As the flooding caused damage to local water lines, Red Crescent trucks drove through neighborhoods to hand out drinking water, said Deputy Minister of the Interior Ismail Catakli.
