A leading economist warns Australia must tone down its rhetoric against China or risk a cold war which could threaten global economic growth. Speaking at the annual Diggers and Dealers mining conference - Professor Ian Goldin is urging political leaders to de-escalate tensions and to hold talks behind closed doors. The former World Bank vice president believes the pandemic has accelerated the rise of China and the threat of a new cold war is real. The deteriorating relationship between the two countries has crippled the coal and agriculture industries.
