US Bases in Germany Prepare Beds and Supplies for Afghanistan Refugees

The United States Armed Forces organized supplies and prepared bases in Germany for evacuees from Afghanistan in Operation Allies Refuge on August 21 and 22, video released by the Department of Defense (DOD) shows. Video filmed on August 21 shows volunteers at Ramstein Air Base sorting supplies such as food, clothes, and blankets for newly arrived Afghans, who will stay at the base temporarily until moving on to their final destinations. Video filmed on August 22 shows tents and beds being prepared at the US Army Garrison Bavaria’s Grafenwoehr Training Area for potential evacuees. On Sunday, August 22, President Biden said more than 28,000 people had been evacuated from Afghanistan since August 14. He said the number included American citizens, Afghan citizens, and citizens from other nations. In a statement, the DOD said the operation was “facilitating the quick, safe evacuation of U.S. citizens, Special Immigrant Visa applicants, and other at-risk Afghans from Afghanistan.” More than 7,000 evacuees had landed at Ramstein, the DOD said on August 23.
