AstraZeneca use to be phased out by October

The federal government is now projecting the AstraZeneca vaccine will be phased out by the end of the year since it is expected all those 60 years and older will be fully vaccinated by then. The recent changes to the medical advice surrounding the AstraZeneca jab - due to blood clot concerns - means people aged 60 and older are now the only ones eligible to receive the vaccine. However, federal health authorities have said there is still a place for AstraZeneca in the national rollout and it will continue to be produced locally for those who request to receive it. A six-month vaccination rollout plan has been released which predicts 1.7 to 2.3 million doses of Pfizer will be available to the states and territories each week by the end of the year. The Moderna vaccine is also expected to be available for under 60s from September – depending on approval by the TGA.
