Extended lockdown called into question by two false positive ‘fleeting cases’

Victoria’s extended lockdown has been called into question after two of the cases which had been presented as examples of 'fleeting transmission' were declared to be false positives. One of the cases was a woman who supposedly caught the virus at a display home in Mickleham and the other was a man who was meant to have caught it in the outdoor dining section of the Brighton Beach Hotel. After the confirmation of the false positives a number of exposure sites including those in Anglesea have been delisted and the primary close contacts will be released. Victorian Health authorities had argued the reason for the extended lockdown was the highly infectious Kappa strain of the virus and never-before-seen fleeting transmission. However, now that most of those fleeting transmission cases have turned out to be false positives questions will be asked about how appropriate the extension of the lockdown was.
