An Australian citizen who was denied access to see his dying mother after being forced to undergo mandatory hotel quarantine is staging a hunger strike and calling for compassionate exemptions for some returned travellers. James Turbitt urgently flew into Melbourne from Belgium on Friday since there were no flights available for him to fly to Perth where his mother was in hospital. Mr Turbitt had tested negative to COVD-19 twice before departing but was denied an exemption from WA Health to skip quarantine in Melbourne despite displaying evidence his mother was in palliative care. His mother sadly passed away on Sunday and he was forced to say his final goodbyes over the internet. He told Sky News there was a double standard for politicians and celebrities who have been allowed to skip the hotels and undergo quarantine in their private villas, or The Lodge in the case of Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
