‘Sick and tired’: regional Victorians call for end to lockdown

Nationals MP Dr Anne Webster says regional Victorians are “sick and tired” of being treated as Melbournians and has urged the state government to end the current lockdown. The Victorian government looks set to extend the state’s seven-day circuit breaker lockdown after six new cases were recorded in the previous 24 hours, bringing to cluster’s total to 60. “Once again, we’ve been put in the same class as those who live in Port Melbourne or Whittlesea,” Dr Webster told Sky News. “This is the fourth time now and regional Victorians are sick and tired of it, being considered the same and often ignored by the Victorian state government until it comes to an issue of a lockdown. “It is crazy – regional Victoria has behaved so well and are clearly the outcomes of there – we don’t have COVID.” Dr Webster also called on the state government to reintroduce ‘ring of steel measures’ which would see regional Victoria reopen for business. “I think it (the ring of steel) would be preferable to having all of Victoria, as a state, locked down,” she continued. “What we want to see is that Melbourne and Melbournites are constrained to live within their geographical location as opposed to coming out into the regions. “It might be a lot of work but locking down all of regional Victoria for no good reason has the trump card. “
