US to share 25 million COVID vaccine doses with the world

The United States will share 25 million COVID-19 vaccine doses with the world through the international COVAX sharing program and will lift some restrictions to allow other countries to buy American supplies to help with vaccine production. The doses will go to both its closest neighbours of Canada and Mexico, as well as South East Asia, Africa, India and South Korea. The White House has said the vaccines are not being shared to secure political favours but to help bring an end to the pandemic. Special powers in the US Defence Production Act will be removed for certain vaccine makers including AstraZeneca and Novavax, freeing up raw material for production.
