Sky News host Chris Smith has slammed the Andrews government, calling the state's latest lockdown an "embarrassment". Victoria was plunged into a state-wide lockdown last month after recording a cluster of COVID-19 cases in Melbourne’s north. "By definition, under the Commonwealth medical guidelines, Melbourne isn't even classified as a hotspot, you've got to have the ten infections over the period of three days to be classified as a hotspot," he said. "People are being robbed of getting their kids to school again. "What sort of madness are we creating when we are forcing people in a city to go to other places for some kind of survival mechanism, it's just outrageous. "You should be able to handle 70 infections over a period of 10 days and especially when you're not supported of JobKeeper. "There will be nothing left of the Victorian economy." Mr Smith also said the federal government "bowed down" to the Andrews government after Scott Morrison announced he would provide an additional $500 on a week-to-week basis for employees who would normally work more than 20 hours a week and $325 for individuals who normally work less than 20 hours.
