Smoke Rises From Caldor Fire Near California-Nevada Border

More than 14,000 firefighters were battling several large wildfires in Northern California as of Tuesday, August 24, officials said. Footage posted on Instagram shows smoke rising from the Caldor Fire in El Dorado County on Monday. The fire burned 117,704 acres (about 184 square miles) as of Tuesday and was nine percent contained, Cal Fire reported. Thousands of structures were at risk while hundreds had already been destroyed. Evacuation orders and warnings were in effect for many parts of El Dorado and Amador counties. The National Weather Service (NWS) said residents in the Reno and Sparks, Nevada, areas were experiencing record-setting poor air quality because of wildfire smoke.
